Who's behind the lists
Steven Piper
Researcher and reviewer, Top10Plumbers
Top10Plumbers is researched and reviewed by Steven Piper. He's based on the Gold Coast and has spent years working with Australian trade and service businesses on their online presence, which is where he saw how hard it is for homeowners to tell good operators from good advertisers. He checks each list against licence registers, Google reviews and each business's own details before it goes up.
Why the site exists
Finding a plumber usually means picking from ads, or from directories where the order depends on who paid. Top10Plumbers is meant to be a short, checkable alternative: ten licensed local businesses per city, each with the reasons it made the list and the facts behind them.
How each list is put together
- Every listed business's plumbing licence is looked up on the state regulator's public register.
- Google ratings and review counts are pulled directly from Google and refreshed twice a month.
- Profiles only use facts we can check, such as the business's own website, its licence record and its Google listing. Where a source is unclear, we leave the claim out.
- Each city page shows the date it was last reviewed.
The full criteria are on how we select plumbers, and how the site is funded is on the advertising disclosure page.
